From the very beginning, The Mountain Thread Company has been committed to participating in and contributing to the local economy. This shows up through selecting products and supporting initiatives that cultivate creativity and growth in the mountains of North Carolina.
Vendors
We source many of our products from local and regional manufacturers and artists. This includes our custom braided rope products, printing services, packaging, design and photography services, and more.
Though fabric production is a global industry, there are often local connections too. When possible, we look through this “local” lens to add unique fabrics to our curated selection of high quality quilting cottons. The American Made Brand of solids is a “farm-to-fabric” line entirely produced in the United States - from the cotton farm to our store shelves (with a few stops in between)! We carry fabrics designed by people who live regionally, and we select motifs and designs that will recall to mind the beauty of the mountains.

We also stock seasonal items from makers who live in our county or an adjacent county. These small-batch handmade products connect visitors from far away places to beautiful and functional art made right in our backyard!
NON-PROFITS
The Mountain Thread Company also participates in regular giving to established nonprofits in this region through the “Last Chance Fat Quarter” program. Visit our shop, and see what treasures you can find in the fabric sale box.
